Personal project for Instagram
The #36daysoftype project invites artists to create a typographic letter each day for a whole month, posting daily to a hashtag on Instagram.
In 2016 I decided to get involved with the project and produce a typographic series. The letter forms I created were made from straight line and block shapes, creating abstract characters. Inspiration came from Constructivism graphic design and Cubism - sounds cliché but often a simple starting point can be enough to discover a new spin on things!

The two-tone colour scheme for each letter is sampled from a photograph I had taken at sunset over south London. Using an image to sample colour combinations unites the set with an organic feeling that I probably would have never discovered if I simply chose random colours.
'A project that invites designers, illustrations and graphic artists to express their particular view on letters and numbers of our alphabet.'

The Result
A complete series
Overall, I was pleased with the outcome of the project. The challenge of creating unique typographic expressions each day, kept my focus disciplined towards a single graphic style. This evolved over the month long project and attracted positive comments and appreciation from other contributors on Instagram, as well as @36daysoftype who hosted the project.

In 2020 I converted the whole series into an NFT Collection available on OpenSea: Click here to purchase an NFT
